Troil Marin goes into publishing
Troil Marin Ltd has won a contract with the Finnish Maritime Administration concerning the publishing rights of Finnish nautical charts for the period 2009 - 2011/2012. Bids were obtained from four Finnish companies with activities in the field of charts. WSOY, the current holder of the publishing rights, did not put a bid.
The contract, signed November 12th, 2008, covers the publishing of 17 folios for international and domestic traffic, some 90 chart sheets for international and domestic traffic plus all the new paper charts that are published during the contract period. The annual sales of Finnish nautical charts sum up to some 20 000 folios and some 10 000 separate sheets.

The new publisher, whose name is to be changed before the beginning of the contract period to John Nurminen Marine Ltd, is responsible for the printing, stock keeping, marketing and distribution of the charts, and has the obligation to keep the nautical charts constantly available through a sufficient dealer network. The Maritime Administration is responsible for the cartography (the data content of the charts) and decides on coverage, technical specifications and the publishing schedule of the charts.
The Finnish Maritime Administration has high expectations for the new publisher's ability to market and sell the nautical charts in a active and professional manner. For years now, Troil Marin has been an important distributor and retailer of the charts through boat equipment shops and shipping companies, so the prerequisites for a good cooperation exist.
